The money is coming direct from the energy companies (or the government in rare circumstances).

Scammers invent a new scam

In the early days, scammers were texting asking for you debit card details to give you your government support.

Results
The scammers would then clone your card and empty your bank account.

If that doesn't work, they will then call you pretending to be your bank, leading on to the 'Safe Account Scam'.
